WE ARE RISE YOUTH DANCE
DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY
RISE Youth Dance is a Bristol based youth dance company providing citywide training, access and progression for young dancers from the ages of 8 – 19.
RISE aims to build aspiration and skills for members through dance in classes, performances and teaching, through rigorous training, visiting artists, intensives, and relationships with partner dance organisations.
The Company is recognised nationally as an excellent training ground for young dancers and has been selected for U.Dance, the National Youth Dance Festival three times. Many students progress to the UK’s top training institutions such as Trinity Laban and The Place. RISE teachers are regularly invited to lead workshops to develop technique, choreographic skills or to talk to young people about progression to a career in dance.
Helen is a Bristol based dance artist who choreographs, performs, collaborates and runs projects. She is the Director of RISE Youth Dance (2008 – present), responsible for the overall artistic imprint alongside managing the company. RISE is now nationally recognised and has represented Bristol nationally at Udance in 2012/2013/2015. Through forming regional partnerships, she has brought in Nationally recognised choreographers to produce professional level performances with RISE. She is extremely passionate about helping to develop emerging artists - many graduates have performed Nationally and gone on to train professionally.
Helen trained as an apprentice in a professional company led by Phoenix Dance founders. They taught her the importance of technique, creative and performance skills but also skills to be an artist, leadership, teamwork, teaching etc. Training in a company meant she was always working with professionals learning from and performing with. It was a different yet great way of learning. Helen went onto dance with companies like RJC Dance company, Les Commandos Percu and Neshima Dance as well as project work with other companies.
Helen now includes mass movement in her life as a dancer. Helping to choreograph, deliver and direct dance for Mass movement events like Rugby league world cup, Big dance 2014/2016, Rugby Union world cup and other local event thats include big groups of dancers.
